The article is devoted to the stylometric aspect of the problem of translation of Ukrainian folk songs. The purpose of the article is to establish a sequence of translation priorities through stylometric investigation of the transformations that occur when translating into English the folk songs from Ivan Franko’s “The Raging Tempest” narrative. The present research is based on Roma Franko’s translation. As a result of discovering the theoretical basis of the problem, the article indicates that Roma Franko’s translations help promote Ukraine abroad, in particular by spreading not only the texts themselves but also the information about their authors. The translator calls Ivan Franko the most prominent author; in academic discourse it is claimed that the translation of his works is a difficult task. The studied lyrics were created within a syllabic tradition, which resulted in the choice of presence of rhyme, (par)oxitonic and vocalic rhymes, their location in the stanza, as well as semantic equivalence as criteria for analysis of the translation. The stylometric study involved processing of data within a spreadsheet interface, where the number of matches in the source and translated texts and the degree of each criterion retaining were determined. As a result of measuring, it was established that the translation of Ukrainian folk songs into English displayed the priority in the following order: semantic equivalence, presence of rhyme, method of rhyming, vocalic rhymes presence, (par)oxitonic rhymes presence. High accuracy of content rendering has been detected – this enables the target audience to have a better understanding of the content of the songs included by the author in the source text. The presence and the way of rhyming in the translation text helps the reader to perceive the matter as the lyrics of the song rather than a regular quotation or intertextual element. The low number of matches in the rhythm and the number of syllables is not critical since the translation of the lyrics is not aimed for singing but for reading.
