The purpose of the article was to theoretically and empirically investigate the young children`s psychological features of fears. The following psychodiagnostic methods were used to achieve this goal: the projective drawing «My fear» by A. I. Zakharov and the technique «Fears in houses» by M. A. Panfilova. The sample included younger students aged 7-10 years. Theoretical approaches to identifying the causes of young children`s fears were analyzed in the study. The factors that influence the occurrence of children`s fears are considered: general anxiety; experiencing social stress; frustration the need of success; difficulties in self-expression; stress in the test situation; low physiological resistance to stress; problems with teachers. It is determined that the presence of children's fears are reflected in the cognitive and emotional development of the child, cause sleep problems and other psychosomatic disorders, cause difficulties in dealing with peers and impede the harmonious development of the child's personality. The statistical analysis the young children`s psychological features of fears in is carried out. It has been found that fears of animals (spiders, snakes, wolves), fears of death (their own or loved ones) and fears of causing physical harm (wars, fires) are the most common for children of this age. Less presented are fears of fairy-tale characters, socially-mediated fears (loneliness), fears of darkness and nightmares, and spatial fears (heights, depths). The subjects did not reveal medical fears and social school fears that are characteristic of younger school age. The group of most expressed fears is related to the basic safety need that is often addressed by adults; and the low level of social fears indicates a favorable social environment for the children’s development. There were no significant differences in the psychological manifestations of fears for girls and boys of primary school age. However, it has been found that fear of physical harm and fear of characters are slightly more prevalent for boys than for girls. Girls are more prone to socially oriented fears than boys. Sexual features fears are associated with differences in social education and interests of girls and boys.
