Abstract
The problems of legislative and regulatory regulation of religious education in Ukraine determine the purpose of this study. In Ukraine, scientists distinguish between two types of religious education - educational (teaching religion in parish and Sunday schools, biblical courses, etc.) and professionally oriented, theological. "Religious education" is broader in scope than "spiritual education", that is, all spiritual education is religious, however, not all religious education falls under the category of spiritual. An analysis of the legislative and regulatory framework allows us to conclude that in Ukraine, at the legislative level, opportunities have been created to conduct religious activities as a professional one and the prerequisites have been created for the formation of educational programs that ensure the formation of professional competencies in this area. Educational and professional programs of domestic religious educational institutions offer graduates a wide range of not only confessional, but also secular employment, however, professional competencies for secular positions are not formed by these programs, which requires the establishment of clearer boundaries between the secular and confessional spheres of higher education.
