Abstract
The article provides brief information on translations of works by Abay Kunanbayev, a prominent Kazakh poet of the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries, and describes in detail the content of the book including translations of his prosaic «The Book of Words» into Ukrainian language. The article by T. Masenko «Life feat of Abay Kunanbaev» (1954), statements of prominent writers and scientists of Ukraine about Abay and his work, in particular - about «The Book of Words», narrative and genre features and main motives of this wor is analyzed. The «The Book of Words» of the Kazakh poet and his thoughts are compared with works and thoughts of the outstanding Ukrainian poet I. Franko and are placed in the context of the Ukrainian and Kazakh history of the turn of the XIX-XX centuries and modern challenges facing Ukraine and Kazakhstan.
