Abstract

We live in a progressive society in conditions of socio-economic instability, which leads to new contradictions and potential sources of conflict. In addition, each of us is in daily contact with many different people who are very different from each other. There are always differences: in family, social and cultural upbringing, in the conditions of development, in types of temperament, personal character, attitudes and values, in the ability to communicate effectively, in intelligence, the ability to understand. It is often because of the collision of these factors, against the background of personal disagreements, conflict situations arise. People do not want or do not know how to listen to their opponent, and cannot do without a third party - a mediator. Conflict is particularly noticeable, due to the clash of views and values, among young people, including students studying in higher education. This is due to the internal contradictions of adolescence, the transition of social status, obtaining greater rights and opportunities, the need to quickly adapt to the social environment and master the system of knowledge, skills and abilities for further successful socio-professional socialization. To date, mediation is the most successful form of conflict resolution. And the social worker, as an experienced professional, needs to master this method, because his potential clients are vulnerable segments of the population, such as orphans; families in difficult life circumstances, adolescents with deviant behavior, former convicts, etc. Therefore, it is important to train social workers who will deal with conflict situations in their professional activities, to better understand the work of the mediator - as one of their types of work.
