Abstract

This article characterizes the principles of the theory of knowledge, according to which various elements in the mental space of the human subconscious are integrated and their conceptual combination is performed. For the analysis, we have selected a register of emotive phrasal verbs as the class of the words that reflect the process of forming of person’s emotional state. It has been suggested that the units that designate person's emotional states are modified and even transformed acquiring new features and properties. It has been found that phrasal verbs are specific for both general and special use. Phrasal verb emotives of “Disgust”, “Anger” and “Fear” LSG mostly mark person’s negative states. It has been established that phrasal verb units with antonymically close meaning are used even for other positively tagged LSG verbal emotives. It has been found that each of the LSG phrasal verb emotives forms cross-links due to the post-component that is the motivator of occasional manifestations of emotions. The most common post-components that are inherent in phrasal and verbal emotives with negative evaluating semantics were at, up and out. A classification of such units with fixation of semantic transformations for each post-component has been developed, in particular, when: 1) the post-component “out”, which has the basic semantics “from something”, acquires the meaning “to frighten, to pull rank” in phrasal and verbal emotives; 2) the post-component “up” has the abstract expression of “upward movement”, but it is transformed into the meaning of the emotional state of anger in phrasal and verbal representation; 3) the post-component “at” indicates “link to a certain point”, but it means “feeling of disgust” and mentally reproduces this emotional state in the composition of phrasal emotives. The conclusion about the regularities of transforming the meaning of phrasal and verbal post-components that reflect a certain cognitive algorithm of blending dependence has been drawn. The theory of conceptual mixing and semantic transformations is specific for English grammatical constructions that include phrasal and verbal emotives. The results of previous observations have been verified using various BNC tools and coding elements, and these cognitive and semantic links have been clearly represented in the form of tagged modi. Key words: phrasal and verbal emotives, conceptual blending, tag, emotive, BNC, semantic transformations.
