Abstract
In the article a writing genius of Turkmenian poet Magtymguly Pyragy (Makhtumqoli Faraghi) is proved by his ability to synthesize a deep adoption of traditions of the classical Farsi-language, Arabic poetry and the poetry in Chagatai language, and Turkmenian folklore with revolutionary novelty of own poems. Magtymguly became a founder of contemporary Turkmenian literary language and new Turkmenian literature in the native language. The traditions of Percian-Arabic lyric poetry were very developed, powerful and dominated over the creative work of every Turkic poet of those times. Magtymguly created several poems in native Turkmenian language in a rhythm aruz, inherent to Farsi-language and Arabic poetry, and also he was an author of some ghazals (this genre was adopted from the classical eastern literatures). But in the majority of his poems Pyragy used a native Turkic stanza goshuk (goshgy). He turned the Turkmenian lyrics from quantitative verse to quantitative one, in other words he changed from aruz to syllabic verse. A virtuosity of Magtymguly was also displayed in constant caesuras, which were positioned between the words, never dividing them into pieces. An important place in Pyragy’s lyrics is occupied by redif, which was borrowed from the classical eastern poetry. The poet created original rhymes, held on tight to demands of goshuk, mukhammas and musaddas. Magtymguly Pyragy’s works as an example of perfectly structured poem-songs are very melodic, that is why Turkmenian people know a majority of them by heart. In the best translations into other world languages it managed to convey a richness of Magtymguly’s poetry in a great measure.
