Abstract

This article discovers the postmodern markers in the plays of Ukrainian diaspora playwright Igor Kostetskiy. The style affiliation views of I.Kostetskiy words are articulated, implemented in the monographies and articles of Ukrainian literary scholars (Tamara Gundorova, Oleksandra Visych, Svitlana Matviyenko, Solomiya Pavlychko, Mariana Shapoval) and ukrainian diaspora (Grigoriy Grabovych, Larysa Zaleska Onyshkevych, Mark Robert Stekh). The majority of the researchers are leaning to position the style parameters of Igor Kostetskiy works between modernism (lat modernism) and postmodernism (early, yet not legalised ukrainan postmodernism, pre postmodernism). Given this it's logical to view the Igor Kostetskiy dramatic work, created almost synchronously with the first plays of European playwrights-absurdists, as the phenomenon of concentrated preformation for the future development of the Ukrainian postmodern drama. Based on the material of the "Twins will meet again" play we discover and illustrate the following markets of the postmodern drama: the postmodern authorial genre definitions; the presence of a personalized lively Prologue and interludes, third-party commentary on stage action and author's intentions; erosion of the main plot of the play by a subtext; declaring "the cult of the everyday life"; the language of puzzles and guesses, mystification and multilevel game; segmentation, reality replication; postulating the crisis of modern theater, which seeks to overcome this crisis by complicating theatrical and even cinematic codes and appealing to "the theater in the theater"; the author's articulated escape from the Theater; finally, a proposal for a holistic semantic model of a postmodern play. This model includes intertextuality, the collapse of logocentrism, the presence of gaps and nonlinear components, paradoxicality, emotionality, non-mimeticism, revision of the traditional "solid form" of the play, degeneration of the main characters, creating free space for directing and acting.
