Abstract

The Review presents the results of systemic examination of possibilities for SEL and state of its implementation in the framework of reform "New Ukrainian School". The interpretation of SEL, its importance for modern education development is provided. The major conceptual, political, legal and regulatory documents that direct the advancement of general secondary education, higher pedagogic education and the system of teacher professional development have been analysed with the purpose to identify circumstances that support the realization of SEL in education system of Ukraine. To understand how SEL is perceived by Ukrainian educators and to measure the level of their readiness for SEL implementation in everyday practical activities, the nationwide all-Ukrainian survey was conducted among school leaders, teachers, psychologists of secondary education institutions; its results are presented in this Analytical Review. The analysis of existing state standards for higher education, the research of the network of higher education institutions that deliver teacher training programmes, the review of SEL related curricula in higher education institutions has demonstrated the availability of capacity for the development of learners’ social and emotional competencies. Conclusions and recommendations of the Analytical Review will present interest for broad audiences of users, but primarily for administrators and researchers involved in education policy making, as well as teaching staff of secondary education institutions and academic staff of higher education institutions.
