Abstract

The article considers the potential opportunities and features of modern approaches to the use of social networks as a means of enhancing students' cognitive interest in learning a foreign language. The statistics of the 2021 study conducted by the analytical company «R&B Group» in market research and advertising on the most popular social networks in the world by the number of users. Their analytical analysis was performed. An analysis of the key concept of the study «social networks» in terms of different scientific approaches. Emphasis is placed on the historical origin of the term «social networks». The educational functions of using social networks Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Telegram, and TikTok in practical classes in a foreign language are outlined, and their educational and cognitive opportunities are outlined. The technologies of their use during practical classes in a foreign language are substantiated. Examples of creative tasks involving social networks are given, which should be used in practical classes in a foreign language in order to enhance the cognitive interest of student youth. Fragments of the author's technology of using interactive exercises and tasks aimed at studying lexical units, grammatical and spelling skills, listening, and consolidating the studied material are presented. It is proved that conducting practical classes in a foreign language using social networks, contributes to the implementation of the principle of learning accessibility, convenience, great information, informal learning, favorable emotional background, optimization of the educational process, individual approach to learning, and creates a solid foundation for cognitive interest students, self-study and self-development, the formation of communication skills and cooperation between teacher and student in extracurricular time, overcome any barriers to limited access to learning, make it non-standard and interesting
