Abstract

The article deals with the theoretical aspects of the formation of national consciousness in the students of 5-6 grades in the lessons of the Ukrainian language and literature. based on the work of scientists, the authors analyzed the latest research and determined the essence of the concepts "consciousness", "national self-awareness", "national consciousness", "formation", "patriotism", "values". The general and specific vision of researchers regarding these phenomena is revealed. It was emphasized that every educational institution of Ukraine should be a center for the formation of a patriotic citizen who is ready to build his state as an independent and democratic state, ensure its national security and promote the unity of the Ukrainian people. The authors give an important place in this matter to the lessons of the Ukrainian language and literature, because it is they who should provide not only knowledge, but also educate the younger generation to respect and love the national language and culture. The authors also single out the main tasks facing the modern teacher: to create a clear system of work aimed at the formation of national consciousness and self-awareness of students; to educate a conscious citizen of Ukraine; to popularize the Ukrainian language, to instill in students a love and caring attitude to their native language, traditions, and culture by their own example; to form the national consciousness of students; constantly systematize and integrate acquired knowledge; to inculcate the need to make one's own contribution to the fate of the motherland. The necessity of forming the national consciousness of 5th-6th grade students in Ukrainian language and literature lessons as the main factor in overcoming the negative in social life, the formation of culture, international relations in society, the education of tolerance, etc. is substantiated.
