Abstract
The article is devoted to the representation of the problem of awareness of a calling as a leading act of life self-determination of a young person. Calling is considered as a significant psychological construct, included in the core of a person’s orientation, which becomes a factor of their successful life self-realization and achievement of psychological well-being. A conscious calling becomes a key to successful professional self-determination of a young person and a factor of the effectiveness of their further professionalization. The study of students’ attitudes on the definition of «calling» is important, as it opens up the possibility of monitoring and psychological support of their professional formation at the stage of professional training. Based on the results of an empirical study of future psychologists’ career attitude, it was established that students have a dominant tendency to perceive this phenomenon as an appealing activity that allows them to successfully fulfill their potential. The surveyed students place the responsibility for awareness and realization of their calling on the individual them self. The most influential factors in the calling awareness have been found to be a person’s knowledge of their talents and abilities, as well as identified life goals. It was found that 55% of the respondents confirmed the awareness of their own calling, and 45% recognized the process of finding it as relevant. However, only a fourth of those interviewed admitted that they are mastering a profession that corresponds to their calling. Self-development, helping people, and playing music are also recorded as widespread spheres of a calling realization by young people. It was identified that only about a quarter of those surveyed consider calling to be the leading factor in the success of a psychologist’s professional activity, while others insist on the importance of a sense of duty, responsibility and experience. It has been proven that clarifying the future psychologists’ understanding of the content and functions of calling is important in the context of the prospects of providing psychological assistance to clients facing issues of professional self-realization and career building.
