Abstract
The article, based on the analysis of the “Diary” of the famous Ukrainian writer from Transcarpathia Ivan Chendey, refers to the role of Transcarpathian regional culture in the formation of the artist, person and public figure, as well as the assessment of various types of art of the Transcarpathian region. We are talking about the significant influence of folk culture, folklore on the writer, the great contribution of parents, compatriots in its formation, about joining the city and world culture during his studies at the Khust Gymnasium, in particular thanks to the help of teacher Petro Lintur. A great popularizer of the art of his native Transcarpathia, I. Chendey developed his own hierarchy of values, where the leading place, in addition to literature, was occupied by painting and music, among architectural monuments – not well-known fortresses and palaces, but wooden churches. Ivan Chendey gives in the “Diary” very apt and professional assessments of the work of many artists of his native land.
