Анотація

The article deals with the internal conflict of the writer Oksana Ivanenko, who was convinced of the need to raise orphans in conditions close to the family, but was supposed to glorify the ideas of social education, in particular A. Makarenko’s ideas. Three stories about the orphanage Sideways (1928), Native Children (1951) and Wedding in the Monastery (1989), written on the basis of her experience, have been analysed in the article. The first one reveals a hidden conflict between the author and the social education system in which she was working. The second story demonstrates the writer’s attempts to fit her beliefs into official mythology: family education is replaced by the symbolic „big family”. The third story is a return to the idea of education, close to the family, and the appeal to her mother’s experience affirms the family as the highest authority.
