Abstract

Xia Yan ( 夏 衍 , 1900-1995) is a literary pseudonym of the famous Chinese playwright and director Shen Duanxiang (沈端先). The work of the Chinese playwright, writer, journalist, screenwriter and director Xia Yan had a significant impact on the history of modern Chinese drama: his unique type of dramatic art marked a new stage in the development of Chinese dramatic literature.
