Abstract

Translation training is largely determined by the level of language competence of the students. In our situation, such training begins in the conditions of students' insufficient proficiency in one of the languages involved in the translation process, and is carried out in parallel with the formation of linguistic competence itself. There is an opinion that the relevance of translation as a type of classroom activity is actually limited to the initial stage, and then translation only harms, causing excessive literalism (loan translation) in the speech of students. However, in reality, this problem is not rooted in translation as a type of activity in the process of learning a foreign language, but in interlanguage interference. In such cases, first of all, it is necessary to help the students overcome a psychological problem, namely, the habit of always relying on the rules of Ukrainian and/or English word usage when generating a message in Japanese. Thus, there is no need to eliminate translation as a type of classroom activity.
