This paper presents the outcomes of a comprehensive research study focused on the phenomenon of hypero-hyponymy in Chinese pedagogical discourse at the primary level. The study explores the relevance, developmental aspects, and prospects of investigating this linguistic phenomenon. A compiled corpus of 74,640 words, extracted from 236 lessons of the most popular Chinese language textbooks designed for beginners, formed the primary research material – «Practical Chinese Reader» 《新实用汉语课本》, «Developing Chinese. Comprehensive course. Beginner level» 《发展汉语初级综合》, «Boya Chinese. Elementary» 《博雅汉语初级》, «Chinese course» 《汉语教程》. The investigation identifies hypero-hyponymy as a type of paradigmatic connection within the semantic field, wherein lexical units (hyponyms) are hierarchically organized to denote specific subdivisions of a more general concept referred to as a hyperonym. This research study focuses on suffixal hypero-hyponymy, particularly as it is manifested in nouns within the Chinese pedagogical discourse at the primary level. The results reveal that suffixal hypero-hyponymy predominantly characterizes nouns in this educational context, forming a significant number of hyponymic groups. Twenty-four suffix morphemes, including 人, 馆, 车, 场, 员, 天, 学, 院, 生, 国, 店, 师, 法, 者, 长, 包, 护, 家容, 手, 家, 料, 民, 客, and 房, were found to act as hyperonyms. Notably, the morpheme-hyperonym 人 united the largest group of noun-hyponyms. The study also highlights a prevalent syntactic pattern within the Chinese-language pedagogical discourse at the primary level, wherein the connection "A and other B" is commonly employed to associate various nouns. Additionally, the existence of complete chains of hyperonyms, each being a hyperonym of the preceding term and a hyponym of the following one, was observed. Approximately 10% of the lexical units in the Chinese-language pedagogical discourse were found to be interconnected through hypero-hyponymic links, underscoring the significance of this linguistic phenomenon in the domain of primary-level language instruction. The corpus of texts serves as a foundational resource for further scientific developments in the field of linguistics.
