Abstract
Language as a system of means for thinking and exchanging thoughts in the process of communication includes a set of elements united in the products of people’s speech activity. All segmental language units are related to each other in such a way that larger segments are divided into a certain number of smaller segments, and this division has a rank character. One of the main tasks of language education today is bringing up a "competent speaker", i.e. such a person who, on the one hand, must expediently use the means of language in all types of speech activity, and on the other – possess the ability to analyze, distinguish and classify linguistic facts, evaluate them from the point of norm, appropriateness of the situation and the sphere of communication. A systematic understanding of syntagmatic and paradigmatic relations between language units allows solving the problem of the functional value of its elements, which is connected with the formulation of the most important principles of interpreting language as a social phenomenon, and these principles must be communicated to students in the process of learning any national language, in particular, Japanese. It was established that: systematic representation of phonetic material not only provides a holistic idea of the sounds of the Japanese language and the specifics of their pronunciation, but also allows building adequate projections on the graphic and lexical systems; the formation of an objective idea about declinable and indeclinable parts of speech allows to achieve a deeper understanding of the relationship between Japanese morphology and syntax; in the process of presenting lexical material, timely reference to the level of morphemes, as well as proper information about lexical valence, seems useful; to establish a connection between separate syntactic phenomena, students are mostly helped by the teacher; representation of the linguistic level of thematization mainly occurs due to creation of special educational texts.
