Abstract

The article considers the policy of the State Center of the Ukrainian People's Republic on Ukrainian-Polish relations in the situation that developed after the Second World War and the establishment of the Yalta-Potsdam system of international relations. The analysis of Ukrainian-Polish bilateral relations in 1920-1939 shows changes in the geopolitical situation and approaches to the formation of new relations in 1940-1980, in particular after the restoration of independence of both countries to which the emigration governments of Ukraine and Poland sought. Despite the similarity of the statuses of the exile governments of the Ukrainian People's Republic and Poland, the Polish government was much more widely recognized by both Western and Soviet governments (until 1945). The State Center of the Ukrainian People's Republic had to prove Ukraine's right to independence before the governments of the democratic world. The main problem of bilateral relations between these governments was the problem of the border between Poland and the USSR, which was established after the Second World War by the victorious countries. For a long time, this issue made it impossible to establish bilateral official and allied relations. The situation has changed since the 1970s after the signing of a bilateral agreement between the emigration governments. The agreement reached on emigration was one of the factors in establishing good neighborly relations between the two countries after the restoration of Ukraine's independence in 1991.
