Abstract

Modality is a linguistic concept that has a rather broad understanding, and therefore, one of the main tasks, we had to establish, is to determine, which aspects of modality are the most relevant for the modern Japanese language and speech. There is a noticeable tendency to consider the scope of the speaker's awareness as a modality, or, in other words, the limits of his knowledge of the world. Also, among the developments in the field of theoretical grammar of the Japanese language in recent decades, one can notice the thesis that modality is a way of the speaker's perception of extra-linguistic reality. We tend to interpret modality as a category that expresses a way of mental-sensual representation of reality. Such methods are numerous and varied. According to the content of the sentence, the speaker can explain one or another type of sensory perception, which is the subjective space between the content of the sentence and reality.
