The specifics of learning in non-linguistic environments and the need for a person-oriented approach to such learners areoutlined. The main problems of learning foreign languages in non-linguistic majors have been clarified (insignificant amount of speaking practice, a small amount of interaction between scientific and pedagogical workers and students, etc.). The European experience regarding current trends and approaches in teaching foreign languages in universities for students of various specialties was studied. Some educational regulatory and legal documentation was analyzed in order to better understand the necessary competencies of specialists in philology, tourism, primary school teachers in our country, the goals of their education, methods and tools for quality training, the total amount of ECTS credits (Standard of Higher Education of Ukraine (Bachelor) in the specialty 035 «Philology» dated June 20, 2019; Standard of Higher Education of Ukraine (Master) in the specialty 035 «Philology» dated June 20, 2019; Standard of Higher Education of Ukraine (Bachelor) in specialty 013 «Primary Education» dated March 23, 2021; Standard of Higher Education of Ukraine (Bachelor) in specialty 242 «Tourism» dated October 4, 2018). Attention is drawn to the sources of motivation for language learning and the tasks of teachers of higher education institutions. Its role for students, difficulties, ways of promotion are explained. The methods and forms of independent work for students of higher education were studied in order to develop their skills in working with foreign language professional sources of information and speech communication. Modern organizational and content aspects of quality training of primary school teachers for teaching foreign languages to their students are characterized. Varieties of interactive teaching methods and the necessity of their application during teaching of foreign languages in institutions of higher education in combination with digital tools (interactive platforms, programs) are highlighted.
