Abstract

The subject of scientific research is the use of a computer-oriented educational environment for the organization of distance learning. The purpose of the article is to clarify the current situation in this area, identify positive and negative elements, examples of successful implementation and prospects for their use in higher education institutions for the realization of educational goals. The work analyzed the available source material, statistical and narrative information, conducted a survey of the main categories of stakeholders in order to evaluate the perception, effectiveness and most productive formats of distance learning. The results of the study refute the popular opinion that distance education should be used only under extreme conditions.According to the key participants of the educational process, distance education is properly organized, in particular the "Journalism" specialty: it is considered equal to face-to-face, extramural types of knowledge acquisition; improves the skills of teachers and students in using computer educational and communication technologies; is the most inclusive format of education; reduces the financial burden on students and educational institutions; expands opportunities for professional development and promotes internationalization of education; is a marketing tool of higher education institutions for attracting future students, etc. A certain inconsistency between the requests of students and teaching staff regarding the implementation of the remote communication format and the ability to satisfy this demand on the part of specialists-practitioners as participants in the educational process was revealed.
