Preprint servers save medical researchers time often associated with lengthy peer review processes, and they purportedly aim to gain public comments, but they carry risks of unverified, and thus inaccurate, medical information. A previous study found, in a cross-sectional analysis of 57 preprint servers, that most (82%) had some sort of a rudimentary screening process in place. Forty to 60% of preprint servers related to health sciences had some sort of ethical guidelines, while only 9% followed the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors’ (ICMJE) recommendations.
