Abstract
Through the use of encyclopedias, encyclopedic and explanatory dictionaries, reference materials, etc., an analysis of the definitive characteristics of key research concepts has been carried out. Normative legal documents reflecting current issues in the education and upbringing of young children in general, and the researched issue in particular, have been identified and analyzed. Based on the analysis of the results of scientific psychological and pedagogical research, the uniqueness of the studied aspects is highlighted. It is established that in preschool children, research activity is a prerequisite for research, during which research competence is formed. It is noted that the formation of research competence in children of the third year of life occurs during the organization of systematic educational interaction with toddlers both in the conditions of a kindergarten and within the family circle. Emphasis is placed on the role of the adult in guiding the initial steps of the research activity of young children. The peculiarities of the mental development of young children, which must be taken into account when accompanying their research activities, are considered. It is outlined that the research activity of children of this age is closely intertwined with the specifics of the subject activity of toddlers. This activity involves the child discovering the functions of objects, which is their hidden feature, for the first time. The child can reveal this feature of the object only through active interaction with it, exploring and studying it. Methods and techniques for stimulating the research activity, practical transformative actions, and gaining experience in new situations to solve cognitive tasks are presented for children of the third year of life. The specificity of conducting «experimental conversations» with children of the third year of life and guiding play-research activities of infants is outlined. The importance of creating a favorable subject-developmental environment, arranging a place for conducting research activities both in kindergarten and in the family is emphasized.
