Abstract

For the first time, the subject of the study is the all-Ukrainian magazine “Hobby”, which was published in 2005-2008. The idea of creating the magazine arose in Kropyvnytskyi (former Kirovohrad) and was implemented by the Kropyvnytskyi-Kyiv team with the in-volvement of authors from different cities of Ukraine. The publication was marketed as a “magazine for all generations” about “the world of our hobbies”. This article describes the magazine’s team of authors, genre, thematic palette and sections. While many hobby publications are applied, they are more about people than about tips, diagrams or recipes.Valerii Miatovych was the “Hobby’s” editor-in-chief and author of the idea, and Li-udmyla Momot was the deputy editor. Regular contributors to the magazine were Yurii Haiev, Ivan Krainiy, Bronislav Kumanskyi, Mykola Ozirskyi, Volodymyr Panchenko and others. The “Hobby Gallery” and other sections featured reproductions by artists from Kro-pyvnytskyi. The entire author’s list was much wider, both in terms of names and geography. The most frequent sections were “A person and Its Hobbies”, “Our Past”, “What’s New About Our Heroes”, “From Hobby to Invention”, and “Explore Ukraine”. Depending on the variety of characters’ hobbies, the sections “Customs”, “Beekeeping”, “Chivalry”, “Philo-cartia”, “Travels”, “Treasures”, “Local History”, “Collecting”, etc. were added. Most of the magazine’s present-day materials were presented in the form of interviews and articles, and less frequently as reports. Historical research was presented in the form of essays or narratives. Some of the materials can be called opportunistic, but most of the published materials have not lost their relevance even 16 years after the magazine publica-tion. Many publications can be a source of valuable information for collectors, booksellers, craftsmen, ethnographers, and historians. The research was based on 31 issues of “Hobby” magazine. Additional information about the specifics of the publication was provided by the magazine’s editor Valerii Mia-tovych in an interview.
