Abstract

The article highlights a theoretical analysis of the concepts “academic success”, “student success”, “academic coaching”, “mentoring”, “tutoring”, “supplemental instructions”, which reveal the essence of the activity of Academic Success Centers in US universities. The author focuses on methods of interaction with students in Academic Success Centers in order to increase their academic performance and adapt them to the social requirements of the campus. It is found that “academic success” is a concept that involves mastering the curriculum, and “student success” includes academic achievements, satisfaction from learning and the acquisition of skills and competencies for further employment. Academic coaching (technology that involves the interaction of participants in the educational process, aimed at identifying and realizing the potential of an individual, using all resources to achieve success) and tutoring (individual lesson where a teacher takes into account the individual characteristics and educational needs of the student) are the most common student support technologies in academic success centers at US universities. The author justifies the importance of educational technologies usage in order to improve the level of mastering students' knowledge in domestic educational institutions. It was found that some Ukrainian universities began to gradually introduce mentoring programs (Kyiv Borys Grinchenko University, Ukrainian Catholic University, National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”) The use of tutoring as an additional technology for acquiring knowledge in Ukraine and abroad was analyzed and compared. The conducted research confirms the effectiveness of educational technologies usage in higher education institutions and outlines the prospects for the use of these technologies in the practice of Ukrainian universities.
