Abstract
In the contemporary multicultural world, where language barriers are diminishing daily thanks to globalisation and technological progress, the understanding of phraseological units gains special significance. Phraseology is crucial in preserving national identities as a reflection of cultural features. The study of these linguistic structures reveals not only linguistic but also cultural, historical, and social dimensions that shape our perception of reality. Consequently, the analysis of phraseological units in a cross-cultural dimension assumes greater significance, offering a toolkit for understanding how different cultures perceive and describe the same phenomena of life. This article is dedicated to analysing phraseological units in Ukrainian, English, and Spanish that reflect the eternal spheres of human life. Phraseology, as a manifestation of cultural identity, plays a significant role in understanding the profound meanings that underpin the linguistic worldview. The article examines the meaning and structure of phraseological expressions that reflect universal life values and experiences, such as life and death, love and hate, happiness and grief, power and weakness. The research is based on cross-cultural and comparative analysis methodologies, allowing the uncovering of standard and unique aspects of phraseological units in the respective languages. A comprehensive approach has been used to analyse linguistic repertoires, revealing common conceptual metaphors and culturally determined differences. The results indicate that despite the diversity of linguistic forms, there is a substantial similarity in portraying key life spheres, which are fundamental across different cultures. The findings of the study point to deep connections between language, culture, and collective consciousness, simultaneously underscoring the importance of language as a medium for conveying social experience. It is proposed that phraseology be considered as a linguistic phenomenon and a distinctive sociocultural marker, thereby opening up new perspectives for intercultural communication and the understanding of international relations.
