Abstract
The article is dedicated to investigating the role of sketch-noting as a means of increasing students’ motivation and development of their cognitive abilities at lessons of a foreign language for professional purposes. The authors consider the essence of sketch-noting, its influence on students’ motivation and cognitive processes. The essence of the basic definition of «sketch-noting» research has been provided, considered by the authors not only as a quick and effective way of recording and combining the main ideas with their subsequent visual presentation, but also as a convenient method of detailed consideration of a certain problem from different points of view. The main focus is on the practical aspects of using sketch-noting at foreign language lessons, including examples, recommendations and advantages of using this method. To consider closer the features of using sketch-noting for increasing students’ motivational and cognitive aspect at lessons of FL for professional purposes, authentic examples of use of various online services, programs and applications, etc., during seminars and practical FL classes have been provided (Adobe Photoshop, Abobe Fresco, Artflow, ArtRage, Infinitive Painter, Linea Sketch, MediBang Paint, Sketchbook, Simon`s cat, Tayausi Sketches). The article reveals the educational opportunities and didactic advantages of using the mentioned online services for creating sketches and scribes with the aim of increasing students’ motivation and developing cognitive abilities at lessons of FL for professional purposes. It has been proven that the use of sketches and scribes in teaching FL to university students contributes to the activation of future specialists’ educational and cognitive activities, providing a diversity of didactic tools, taking into account different channels of information perception. The conclusions of the article emphasize the effectiveness of sketch-noting as a tool for increasing university students’ motivation and improving their cognitive skills while learning a foreign language for professional purposes.
