Abstract

Figurative thinking is the main type of thinking in older preschool children. The state of its formation largely determines the success of children in acquiring knowledge, developing skills and abilities in accordance with the Basic Component of Preschool Education, and in the future, the requirements of school curricula. The purpose of this paper is to outline the results of a study of the peculiarities of the state of forming figurative thinking in senior preschool children with severe speech disorders in comparison with children with typical speech development. The following methods of scientific research were used in the work: analysis and generalization of scientific and methodological literature on the research problem, experiment, testing, comparison, quantitative and qualitative analysis of the experimental data obtained. Based on the results of the conducted diagnosis using the author's methodology, which is based on the modification of the study of figurative memory, an insufficient level of development of figurative thinking has been observed, especially its topological, projective, ordered, and compositional substructures, in children with severe speech disorders. These results indicate that children have difficulty in creating mental images of objects or phenomena, operating with them and previously created and stored images in their memory, as well as analyzing, synthesizing, abstracting, mediating, comparing and generalizing perceived information. The identified difficulties lie at the heart of the problems with preparing for studying at the New Ukrainian School. The practical significance of these work lies in providing specialists working in special and inclusive preschool education institutions with insights into the distinct characteristics of the state of formation of imaginative thinking in older preschool children served speech disorders. The results of the study can be used to develop and implement a methodology for the formation of imaginative thinking in older preschool children with severe speech disorders
