Abstract

One of the urgent problems of today is a decrease in interest in reading both among adults and children, which can lead to serious consequences both in the development of society in general and individual personalities. In addition, the lack of reading, its imperfection, threatens educational processes, leading to a significant decrease in the level of education. The article is devoted to the consideration of the main aspects of the support and development of children's reading in Ukraine, the analysis of specific ways of solving these problems in the postgraduate training of teachers. The opinion that the modern teacher needs to be taught to solve the problems of children's reading both in his professional educational activity and in his work with parents of children is substantiated. In particular, it is stated that domestic postgraduate pedagogical education should now provide teachers with knowledge of theoretical, psychological, and practical aspects of children's reading and the necessary tools to engage children in reading in today's conditions. The article analyzes the main areas of work with teachers in postgraduate studies: with a wide range of teachers of various specialties who are related to the problems of children's reading (as class teachers, as teachers of certain educational subjects of a non-philological orientation) and with lexicographers, who are directly related to supporting children's reading in accordance with the content of school literature courses. The opinion that the training of all categories of teachers in post-graduate education should begin with the clarification of the reasons for the modern child's lack of desire to read has been proven and substantiated, and the main reasons for this phenomenon are listed. The article also contains specific advice on the development of children's reading and a questionnaire for parents.
