Abstract
Japanese final particles (終助詞), which got their name due to their characteristic placement at the end of the utterance, are grammatical units that convey modal-expressive and semiological meanings, and also act as notable indicators of the socio-cultural development of society. Coverage of this topic in previous studies of language stereotypes and ideologies has shown that the preference for a speaker's use of certain final particles indirectly indicates the sex, gender, socioeconomic status, and other related social categories to which the speaker may potentially belong. It is noteworthy that the stereotypes associated with these lexemes of the Japanese language originate not from semantic properties, but from their pragmatic meaning in the context.
