Effective and coherent methods or interventions for supporting learners with autism in education are currently lacking. This is particularly evident Актуальні питання у сучасній науці within the context of supporting learners to adapt to school, including the social aspects of the environment such as peer and teacher interactions within inclusive classrooms. International experience has demonstrated the effectiveness of applied behavior analysis to facilitate the integration of learners with autism to new environments, to develop their independence, increase their social and communication skills, develop their interests and cooperative play abilities. To enable applied behavior analysis to be used effectively in this context, a certified behavior analyst needs to be included in the multidisciplinary team around the child. The purpose of this article is to highlight key components of a program for teaching adaptive skills to learners with autism in primary school, based on the principles of applied behavior analysis. For this study, five primary school learners with autism were assessed using the Vinelands Adaptive Behavior Scale. The results showed low scores in social behaviors, understanding language and interpersonal relationships. The applied behavior analysis specialist developed a program to teach adaptive skills to the learners which included a joint team approach to support the children though training members of the team around the child in using methods and techniques from the field of applied behavior analysis. In our discussion, we emphasize the need to develop the competencies of the members of the team supporting learners with ASD, through cooperation with a behavior analyst. This increases the possibilities of creating an environment conducive to learning and developing children with ASD’s abilities, to clearly identify their primary needs through assessment, to formulate relevant and measurable long and short-term goals, to develop programs that target the teaching of essential skills, their generalization and maintenance, as well as to ensure the consistent collection of data to reflect the learner’s progress.
