Abstract
The influence of the Chinese language on the formation of the linguistic landscape of Kyiv has been examined, with a focus on its essence and distinctive features. A comprehensive collection of materials related to state institutions, shops, service establishments, and health institutions has been presented." The concept of "linguistic landscape (landscape)" is interpreted. Its functions are singled out, in particular the main ones – informative and symbolic. The researched units were systematized according to their function, motivational structure, materials from which they are made, the language on the sign and their quantity (monolingual, bilingual, multilingual), the placement of the linguistic sign, font size, the sequence of language arrangement, and the script system. It is shown that the motivational structure of signs is dominated by essential, locative, and anthroponymic ergonyms, which can be explained by the transparent motivational connections of the original and derived lexemes. It is specially noted that mostly in all studied units the connection with China is traced. It is determined that the method of application and the quality of the materials for signs are determined by the peculiarities of Chinese culture. It has been established that, typical of the Chinese linguistic landscape, signs made of fabric and thick paper with red and yellow (gold) inscriptions dominate. It is reported that the linguistic landscape represents the diversity of language groups living in the city, so texts can be monolingual, bilingual and multilingual. It has been recorded that monolingual names in Chinese with pinyin or Ukrainian transcription predominate. Numerous errors have been identified in them. It has been determined that bilingual inscriptions slightly dominate among ergonyms. It is specially noted ergonyms that combines two languages in one name. During the analysis of multilingual signs, it has been determined that the name in Chinese (sometimes in English) is usually placed first and presented in a larger font, emphasizing its importance. It has been concluded that Chinese names have employed both simplified and traditional hieroglyphic systems. It has been identified that simplified Putonghua predominates on bilingual and multilingual signs; the use of such a hieroglyphic system demonstrates the continuous connection between generations and the continuity of cultural tradition. It is emphasized that in the field of studying the linguistic landscape of Ukraine, particularly in the city of Kyiv, there remain numerous issues that require further resolution.
