Abstract
This research aims to study the press marathon as a modern form of event communication in Ukraine. To deepen the understanding of event communication and its consequences, the authors used empirical research methods such as observation and analysis of the press marathon broadcast and analysis of expert interviews with Ukrainian media experts. The research offers the author's own definition of the concept of "press marathon", analyses the structure of the event and identifies the features of the Presidential Press Marathon. To objectify the study, the authors collected and analysed the main views of experts on the format of the press marathon and formulated recommendations for improving communication techniques for future new media formats. The authors emphasise the importance of non-verbal communication (body language, facial expressions, gestures), active listening and responding as important components of effective communication for presidents during press events. The analysis of the press marathon made it possible to track the use of communication strategies by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a long meeting with journalists, as well as the role of the event organisers in choosing the strategy for the event. Based on the analysis of scholars' views on the press marathon, the researchers offer their own definition of the press marathon as a new format of planned event communication aimed at promoting open communication and building trust between the head of state and the audience. Based on the analysis of the survey of 16 Ukrainian journalists, editors and media experts, the authors identified certain shortcomings of the press marathon and concluded that the format of the press marathon should be improved, in particular by reducing the time of the sessions, diversifying the questions and improving the training of journalists participating in the event. If the conditions for holding the press marathon are optimised, taking into account the further digitalisation of the media space, this event will become popular in many companies and institutions as a means of effective collective problem solving
