Abstract
The article explores the psychological aspects of mediation and examines the role of emotions in reconciliation. The goal of this study is to highlight psychological factors, particularly the importance of emotional management in mediation. General scientific methods of cognition, including analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization, and systematization of scientific approaches, were employed in the research. Findings demonstrate that mediation is a modern and effective tool for conflict resolution, as it aims to remove psychological barriers that often hinder mutual agreement. As a democratic process, mediation provides participants with an opportunity to openly discuss their perspectives and concerns, enabling them to find common solutions. This approach supports peaceful coexistence in post-conflict communities and promotes social equilibrium, creating an alternative to legal proceedings. The study establishes that the mediator’s role is essential in the mediation process, as the mediator is responsible for organizing and maintaining communication between the parties. To fulfill their duties effectively, mediators need competencies such as emotional stability, flexibility, objectivity, tolerance for injustice, and the ability to inspire trust in conflict parties. Ethics, tact, resilience, social skills, and intuition further enhance the mediator's professional profile, allowing them to manage the emotional and communicative dimensions of disputes effectively. Both positive and negative emotions significantly impact mediation: negative emotions like anger and fear can intensify the conflict, obstructing constructive discussion, while positive emotions, such as empathy and optimism, foster trust between parties. The practical significance of this research lies in improving mediators' skills in handling the emotional aspects of conflicting parties, thereby facilitating a more effective path to agreement.
