Abstract
The aim of the article is to analyze the worldview preferences, activity priorities and everyday life of the Ukrainian nobility of the 19th century on the example of the life story of one of its representatives. This is Mykhailo Markevych, the younger brother of historian and ethnographer Mykola Markevych. For researchers Mykhailo Markevych remains on the margins of the history of the famous family to which he belonged. But the sources help us understand the rather complex lifeworld of this person, a representative of his time and social strata. The reconstruction of Mykhailo Markevych’s life deepens the understanding of the life of the Ukrainian nobility in social, economic, family, and domestic features. This makes it possible to assess more impartially the role of this execution in the history of the 19th century and to question the assertion that the Ukrainian nobility lost its national identity completely due to its incorporation into the ranks of the imperial nobility.
