Abstract

The article examines the essence and factors of children's adaptation to the conditions of a new socio-cultural environment during forced migration, and also describes the study of the adaptation of Ukrainian migrant children in a Polish school. It is noted that the adaptation of a child to the conditions of a new socio-cultural environment during forced migration is his adaptation to the changes associated with moving from his usual place of residence to another and the need to interact with a new environment for himself. The ways of adaptation to new environmental conditions, as well as the phases of adaptation, are discussed. In the process of integration for the purpose of social adaptation, a large role is played by: the educational environment and the experience already associated with them; the family in which the migrant child is raised; the host society (students and teachers); the mental and psychological state of the child; language skills; accessibility and integrativeness of the material; the economic situation in the family; past migration experience; the level of desire of indigenous children to learn a new culture, language and accept it; the reason for migration (forced migration or migration at the request of the parents). It is obvious that the social adaptation of migrant children is also influenced by their individual psychological characteristics. Since the lack of involvement of both parents and the school in the life of a migrant child leads to increased neuropsychiatric stress and maladaptation, it would be advisable to create preparatory classes for migrant children; to constantly monitor the emotional state; to maintain contact and cooperate with parents for successful adaptation; to promote and support the indigenous culture of migrant children so that they feel safe; to prepare both the teaching staff and the student staff for the involvement of migrant children in the educational process. As a result of the study, a positive relationship was found between the level of neuropsychiatric stress and the level of adaptation of a migrant child; and between the level of parental involvement and attention to children in the process of adaptation and the level of adaptation of the child.
