Abstract

Mediative skills and cross-cultural skills development of philology teachers in the system of their professional training in the conditions of multicultural education. It was found that the modern multicultural reality determines the need for professional training of a modern linguist, who is ready to form cross-cultural values of students and develop their intercultural communication skills. The concepts of “culture”, “dialogue of cultures”, “multicultural education”, “multicultural worldview”, “cross-culture”, “mediation” are characterized and their place in the educational environment is determined. The author substantiates the idea that a modern teacher of a foreign language and foreign literature should be a qualified mediator - a socio-cultural mediator-translator who is able to explain and help to comprehend various semantic nuances of a foreign language culture: peculiarities of national and general human culture, spiritual and moral foundations of the life of man and humanity, individual peoples, cultural foundations of family, social, phenomena and traditions, the role of science and religion in human life, etc. The article also analyzes the essential characteristics of the concepts of “cross-cultural approach” and “socio-cultural competence of a teacher” and identifies its main components and stages of formation in postgraduate education. In particular, the purpose of each of the three stages: motivational, research, and executive is determined, as well as the three main dimensions through which the teacher's mediation activity can be managed (text mediation, concept mediation, and communication mediation). In addition, the main levels of understanding foreign culture necessary for the effective formation of sociocultural competence of philology teachers are named. The article outlines methodological approaches to the development of cross-cultural values and socio-cultural competence of philology teachers through the formation and development of their mediative skills in the process of professional growth. The article identifies effective teaching methods (interactive and non-interactive) forms of work and mediative exercises that can be successfully used in the process of postgraduate training of teachers of foreign language and foreign literature.
