Abstract

In the field of linguistic didactics, the problem of semantic and functional features of formal nouns is rooted, first of all, in the difficulties of mastering the mechanism of formation of key grammatical constructions due to insufficient understanding of the essence of formal nouns as components of such grammatical units. The problem of substantivators, which also belong to the category of formal nouns, deserves special attention. In addition, it can be difficult to choose the appropriate substantivator or other formal noun. The approaches to the representation of grammatical material were analyzed in terms of the effectiveness of highlighting the semantic and functional features of formal nouns in modern Japanese, and possible effective ways of their interpretation and integration into the Japanese language as a foreign language curriculum were presented, and a number of practical recommendations were developed to form an objective idea of the grammatical structure of the Japanese language among students. We have established, in particular, that didactic material of a schematic nature should primarily be used by researchers and students of advanced level of Japanese language study. As for the active processing of such sources by beginners, it can cause a distorted idea of the system as a whole, but the timely drawing of parallels between these units by the teacher in the process of presenting the material of the basic Japanese language course is absolutely necessary. When recommending grammar reference books, it is necessary to take into account that students do not always and not immediately reach a sufficient level of awareness of the place of a particular element in the language system; sometimes there is a need for preliminary preparation. It is also necessary to remember the importance of timely systematization of the material and ensuring correlation between identical, related and interconnected elements of the language system.
