Анотація
The subject and objectives of the research are conditioned by the topicality of STEAM education and the need for STEAM competences, the integration of science basics, the formation of competences in pre-service teachers and students, the need for targeted training for future teachers and initial teaching, the instruction of the scientific method in teaching, the study of STEAM teaching methods, the dynamically developing digital society, gaps in the job market for IT specialists. The research questions included the following: 1. What are the views of pre-service teachers on STEM education; integrating teaching knowledge into the teaching profession; the teacher education programmes in acquiring an integrated teaching knowledge? 2. What are the proposals of STEAM education programmes - formal and extracurriculum; 3. What are the opinions of students on their situation of possessing an integrated teaching knowledge? Adequate hypotheses were developed. STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics as a way to guide students in their investigations, dialogues and critical thinking. STEAM education focuses on students with their ability to integrate interdisciplinary knowledge, stimulating their interest in STEAM training, and helping them develop skills for future employment in STEAM jobs, and STEAM literacy as a global citizen should also be in the 21st century. The research methods include a literature review, selected experimental studies, development of research tools in the form of a questionnaire and a self-assessment test of STEAM competences using the Lickert 1-5 scale. The study groups are students of pedagogical faculties at two universities - Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University (Ukraine) and the University of Silesia (Poland). Conclusions include the main research results and suggestions for HEIs and pre-service teachers.
