Abstract
In today's world, characterised by the rapid development of science, technology and information technology, the professional skills of a teacher are of particular importance. A teacher should not only be a carrier of knowledge, but also an active participant in the educational process, capable of continuous self-development and self-improvement. One of the important ways to achieve a high level of professionalism is self-education. Self-education is a purposeful process of acquiring knowledge, skills and abilities outside of formal education, which is carried out on the basis of personal initiative and interest. In the context of the professional activity of biology teacher, self-education is of particular importance, as this science is developing rapidly and therefore requires constant updating of knowledge.Therefore, the problem of self-education as a factor in improving the professional skills of a teacher is sufficiently researched, but the methodological support for the implementation of self-education of future biology teachers in modern institutions of higher education needs to be further developed.
