Abstract

The article examines personal factors that influence the process of psychological adaptation of first-year students to studying at a higher educational institution. The importance of motivation, anxiety level, self-esteem and communication skills in this process is considered. The main difficulties that may arise during the adaptation period and possible ways to overcome them are identified. The transition from school to higher education is a critical stage in the life of a first-year student, and requires adaptation to new academic, social and personal challenges. This process is necessary for the development of independence, critical thinking and time management skills in the student, which are key to successful study in higher education. Students must also adapt to a new social environment, often moving away from existing sources of support. In addition, the relevance of the issue of adaptation remains unchanged due to the constant change in the requirements of higher education. As educational and social expectations change, students are constantly faced with new problems during this critical stage. Understanding and resolving potential difficulties in the process of adapting to university studies is important for the future of higher education applicants. Most scientists note that the success and effectiveness of learning are significantly influenced by the student's ability to master the new educational environment in which he finds himself upon entering the university, and by personal factors, in particular, motivation and communication skills, self-esteem and level of anxiety. The very beginning of classes is the inclusion of the student in a complex adaptation system. Studies by domestic and foreign scientists emphasize that personal factors form the basis of the adaptation process. The effectiveness of this process depends on the complex influence of motivation, emotional intelligence, social skills and the ability to self-organize, which requires an individual approach in educational practice. The methods that ensure successful adaptation in first-year students include the use of active methods of socio-psychological learning (discussions, project activities, interactive tasks), providing opportunities for self-realization through scientific, creative and social activities, forming a positive educational environment that promotes interaction between students and teachers, developing self-regulation and self-organization skills in students. The results of a study of students' adaptive behavior strategies during the first months of study at the university are presented. The research methodology was aimed at studying individual preferences in choosing behavioral strategies in problematic situations of social interaction. The combination of strategies in individual behavior characterizes the personality's adaptation style.
