Abstract

In the current context of the development of creative industries, the intensification of intercultural communication, and the rethinking of design as a tool for cultural representation, the culturological component in the professional training of future designers is gaining particular significance. It serves not only as a contentrelated element of professional education but also as a factor in shaping deep, socially and aesthetically motivated professional competence. The culturological component in the system of design education is understood as an integrative concept that encompasses knowledge of cultural heritage, value systems, image semiotics, national identity, sociocultural traditions, and ethical guidelines. It fosters in students the ability to consciously incorporate cultural content into the design process and to reflect on the aesthetic and semantic aspects of the visual environment. It is proven that the culturological component functions not only as a means of humanizing design education but also as a key factor in forming the professional competence of future specialists. Its integration into the educational process enables the development of conceptually motivated project work, enhances aesthetic culture and worldview maturity, and prepares designers to operate within contexts of intercultural interaction and value diversity. Culturological competence is defined as the ability to work with cultural codes, symbols, traditions, and aesthetic meanings in the design process. The article analyzes the classification of competencies in art education (according to L. Masol), highlighting the role of humanities knowledge – particularly culturology – in developing conceptual thinking, aesthetic reflection, creative individuality, and the designer’s communicative capacity. It also outlines domestic scholars’ approaches to integrating culturological content into educational programs. The mechanisms for implementing the culturological approach are revealed through curriculum content, interdisciplinary integration, culturally meaningful project-based learning, and student engagement with the cultural environment. It is argued that the culturological component ensures authenticity, depth, and ethical value in design products and contributes to shaping designers as carriers and creators of cultural space.
