Abstract

The article highlights the problem of using neologisms as didactic material in Ukrainian language lessons. The reasons for the popularity of neologisms caused by the Russian-Ukrainian war are analyzed; attention is focused on the specificity of semantic processes present in the context of neologism in the composition of Ukrainian vocabulary in general, as well as neologisms derived from slang used by the military; the expediency of using such words as didactic material in Ukrainian language lessons is substantiated; the relevance of using new words, word combinations, phraseological units in students’ communication is noted. It is emphasized that it is the prevalence of neologisms formed on the basis of new realities that is a manifestation of the unanimity of speakers in understanding and perceiving the objects they name, which testifies to the unity of the language-creating people. It is noted that the teacher should warn students against oversaturating speech with neologisms. When using such words, they should take care of their correspondence to the purpose of the statement and their consistency with the communication situation. It is also necessary to take into account the stylistically reduced shade of meaning that the use of slang-neologisms gives to the statement. Examples of differentlevel exercises and tasks for students in grades 5–11 are given. It is concluded that neologismsslangs play the role of emotional diversification of communication, realize the desire of students to be original, witty, avoid hackneyed expressions, interest interlocutors with emotionality, freshness and wit of the statement. It is proved that neologisms of the wartime testify to the heroism of the Ukrainian people, convey their attitude to war, hatred and contempt for the enemy, and affirm faith in the victory of Ukraine. It is emphasized that many neologisms are characterized by an ironic-satirical or humorous coloring, because laughter, like words, is an important weapon in the fight against the enemy, a means of resisting him. Prospects for further research are outlined in the need to study the problem from the perspectives of psycholinguistics and cognitive linguistics.
