Abstract

The guitar sonatas of Antonio José (1902–1936) and Alberto Ginastera (1916–1983) occupy an important place in modern musical literature, representing the wealth of national cultural traditions and the innovative spirit of musical art of the 20th century. Antonio José's work is a model of the harmonious synthesis of Spanish folklore with classical form. The composer skillfully combines the Dorian mode, dance rhythms such as the bolero, sevillana and fandango, with a sophisticated harmonic language. This allows you to create a unique sound palette that reflects the richness of the Spanish musical tradition. The sonata requires a deep understanding of style, accuracy in conveying the character of folk motifs and high technical skill from the performer, which makes it one of the most outstanding works in the repertoire of modern guitarists. Alberto Ginastera's Sonata, in turn, opens up the world of Argentine music, immersing the listener in the multifaceted space of folk tradition through modern compositional techniques. The basis of the work is the rhythm of the folk dance malambo, which, combined with polytonality and an innovative approach to texture, creates a fascinating sound. Ginastera manages to organically weave national motifs into the context of modern music, while maintaining a deep connection with the roots of Argentine art. The sonata is distinguished by intense emotionality and drama, which requires the performer to have rhythmic accuracy and interpretative freedom. This article is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of the stylistic and technical features of these two masterpieces of 20th-century guitar music. The harmonic structure, rhythmic features, form formation and performance aspects that make these works unique in the world guitar repertoire are considered. Special attention is paid to the role of national musical traditions in the formation of the artistic concepts of composers. The scientific basis of the study includes an analysis of the works of K. Whitehead (2002), dedicated to the performance difficulties and harmonic language of the Antonio José Sonata, and Luka Vidović (2021), which highlights the historical and cultural context of the creation of both works. The results obtained allow a deeper understanding of the significance of these compositions in the development of 20th-century guitar music, as well as their influence on the formation of the modern concert tradition. The article is aimed at musicologists, teachers, performers and everyone interested in the history and evolution of guitar art.
