Abstract

The research focuses on the corpus analysis of Queen Elizabeth II’s Christmas speeches over her period of reign, 1952-2021, finding the lexical changes throughout the years. We used the Voyant Tools software to identify changes in vocabulary, sentence structure, word frequency, and thematic emphasis from 1952 to 2021. We made seven divided corpora, highlighting political, technological, and social contexts that influenced the Queen’s discourse. We have done the comparative analysis between selected speeches 1952 and 2021, and 1999 and 2000, revealing a stylistic shift from formal to personal resonant language. The paper examines how lexical choices and rhetorical strategies adapt over time to maintain changes. The study contributes to the fields of corpus linguistics, political discourse, and media communication. It also demonstrates how corpus tools can have an influence in diachronic stylistic analysis.
