Анотація
This research paper explores the verbalization of secrets in the novel “Big Little Lies” and shows how the characters were using different ways to hide their secrets, for example: changing the topics, avoiding direct answers and the use of euphemisms. The work is carried out within the framework of discourse and interpretation analysis. The verbalization of secrets as well as the issue of social interaction as a unit of analysis were determined in this research. The article examines secrets and their use as a way to maintain a certain social role. The work defines the discourse of secrets as a way of avoiding certain information in the context of trauma and internal conflicts. The greatest importance in this scholarly work focuses on the analysis of hidden secrets and their impact on social interactions between characters. It was concluded that social interaction appears as a content for cultural and social investigations. The research also found that in an attempt to hide secrets, the characters try to avoid details about their past, gossip about others, avoid attention which led to distrust each other. This is expressed in linguistic aspects and verbal expressions, which together create a picture of lies that lead to irreversible consequences.
