Abstract

The main regulatory documents in the field of education define the main competencies that should be formed in graduates of Ukrainian schools. Among them is reading competence, which is associated with artistic and figurative thinking. The article clarifies and reveals the concepts of “artistic and figurative thinking of the author-artist” and “artistic and figurative thinking of the student-recipient”, and their influence on the level of reading perception of students in the process of perceiving works of art is investigated. In particular, it is noted that thinking in artistic images is a creative process through which works of art are created or perceived. The article analyzes two interconnected, but not identical concepts: "artistic and figurative thinking of the artist", which is realized as the ability to create a work of art as a system of artistic images, and "artistic and figurative thinking of the recipient", which is realized in the process of perceiving a work of art. The idea that artistic and figurative thinking is impossible without such mental operations as analysis, synthesis, comparison, concretization, generalization - that is, those processes that are inherent in thinking as a psychological category - is proven, substantiated, and schematically presented. The article substantiates conclusions regarding the need to familiarize students with aspects of the artist's artistic and figurative thinking, with the aim of in-depth perception of a literary work, which will provide keys to decoding his author's intention and a deep understanding of the writer's creative manner. The main attention is paid to aspects of the development of artistic and figurative thinking of readers-students. It is proven that the artistic and figurative thinking of schoolchildren is closely related to fantasy, imagination and literary abilities and directly depends on the age characteristics of the child, on his reading culture, the ability to understand artistic language, the genre specificity of the work, and the available subjective experience. The article also systematizes and presents skills related to the perception and production of artistic texts, which directly affect the development of artistic and figurative thinking of students.
