Abstract

The article explores the specifics of speech therapy for young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the context of inclusive and special preschool education. The study outlines the main speech disorders typical for children with ASD, such as echolalia, limited vocabulary, absence of communicative intent, and articulation difficulties. Emphasis is placed on the importance of early intervention and a structured, multi-stage approach to speech development. The article presents empirical data gathered from a survey conducted among 13 practicing speech therapists working in Ukrainian preschool institutions with inclusive or specialized groups for children with ASD. The analysis revealed the most common methods used by practitioners, including visual prompts, sensory integration, speech modeling, and alternative communication systems such as PECS. The challenges encountered by speech therapists are also discussed — lack of contact with the child, low motivation, emotional outbursts, and limited access to specialized methodological materials. Despite these challenges, a positive trend is observed towards the integration of innovative technologies and the individualization of therapy strategies. The study emphasizes the necessity of a comprehensive approach that combines psychological, pedagogical, and medical interventions. It advocates for the development of methodical recommendations that would support both specialists and parents in optimizing speech therapy for children with ASD. Future research perspectives are directed toward improving educational resources, expanding the use of assistive communication technologies, and strengthening interprofessional collaboration within the early intervention framework
