Abstract
The theoretical and methodological basis of the work lies in contemporary linguistic approaches to phraseology and stylistics, with particular reference to the study of proverbs as dynamic elements of language. Central to the research is the understanding of proverbs not merely as fixed expressions of traditional wisdom, but as playful and transformative phenomena that are subject to ongoing modification in modern discourse. The work draws on concepts from cognitive linguistics, pragmatics, and discourse analysis, enabling a detailed examination of how proverbs are creatively adapted through processes such as irony, lexical substitution, semantic shift, and structural blending. The applied methods made it possible to identify and classify various types of modified proverbs (including so-called anti-proverbs), to analyze their communicative and stylistic functions, and to explore their role in reflecting social attitudes and linguistic creativity in contemporary German usage.
